    Description

Escarpment Vineyard was established in 1999 and is lead by living-legend Larry McKenna, the “Godfather of New Zealand Pinot Noir”, who been making wine in Martinborough for 30 years.
The Edge is 100% Martinborough Pinot Noir, grown on the alluvial gravel terraces for which the district has become famous. Pure and expressive, with crisp and vibrant juicy raspberry puree and cherry flavours, showing accents of clove and black pepper. Juicy, medium bodied, tangy strawberry, almost a smokiness, and a good push through the finish. Rated 91/100 by Decanter and 92/100 by The Wine Front.

    Variety Description

    Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir grapes are grown around the world, mostly in the cooler regions, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. When young, wines made from Pinot noir tend to have red fruit aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries. As the wines age, Pinots have the potential to develop vegetal and "barnyard" aromas that can contribute to the complexity of the wine.

    Country Description

    New Zealand

New Zealand wine is largely produced in ten major wine growing regions spanning from north to south Northland, Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury/Waipara and Central Otago. New Zealand red wines are typically made from a blend of varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and much less often Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec), or Pinot Noir. In white wines Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc predominate in plantings and production. New Zealand is home to what many wine critics consider the world’s best Sauvignon blanc.

    Region Description

    Martinborough

Martinborough is located at the foot on New Zealand's North Island. Martinborough has a large number of vineyards producing wines, producing some of the country's best Pinot Noir. Martinborough has a warm micro-climate, with hills to the east and west. Almost all the vineyards are in thin ribbons around the northern and eastern sides of the town, and on the Dry River to the south. All follow dry riverbeds, which provide appropriate soils for viticulture, much like the climate found in Burgundy.
