    Description

Penfolds has been producing remarkable wines since 1844 and indisputably led the development of Australian fine wine in the modern era. The quality of Penfolds' red wines is simply world-class; nowhere else will you get such great wine for such good value. Penfolds Grange, without doubt Australia's greatest red wine, is also recognised as one of the worlds' finest. Launched in 1976, Koonunga Hill has established an incredible reputation for value for money and consistency of quality. A blend of 65% Shiraz and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, lively red-berried fruits leap with pomegranate and olive nuances. A balanced, rich palate, with ripe red plums and some darker berries. Grainy, softened tannins and bright acidity delivering plenty of flavour and depth.
    Rated 92/100 by James Suckling.

    Variety Description

    Shiraz

Syrah (also known as Shiraz) is a dark-skinned grape variety grown throughout the world and used primarily to produce red wine. The style and flavor profile of wines made from Syrah is influenced by the climate where the grapes are grown with moderate climates (such as the northern Rhone Valley) tending to produce medium to full-bodied wines with medium to high levels of tannins and flavors of blackberry, mint and black pepper notes. In hot climates (such as the Barossa Valley of Australia), Syrah is more consistently full-bodied with softer tannin, jammier fruit and spice notes of liquorice, anise and earthy leather. In many regions the acidity and tannin levels of Syrah allows to have favorable aging potential

    Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climate. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. South Australia, Western Australia & California in the USA have become well-known for their Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The classic profile of Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be full-bodied wines with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to the wine's aging potential.

    Region Description

    South Australia

The South Australian wine industry is responsible for more than half the production of all Australian wine. South Australia has a vast diversity in geography and climate which allows the state to be able to produce a range of grape varieties-from the cool climate Riesling variety in the Clare Valley to the big, full bodied Shiraz wines of the Barossa Valley. Some of Australia's best-known wines like Penfolds Grange, Jacob's Creek, Yalumba and Henschke Hill of Grace are produced here, as well as many of Australia's mass-produced box wines.
